Plastic FIBC Jumbo Bag: The Ultimate Guide

Do you have many questions about the FIBC jumbo bag, such as what is the raw material?
Here is an ultimate guide about FIBC jumbo bag for you. - let’s get started:

1. What is a jumbo bag?

FAQ Arrow

Jumbo bags also called Bulk Bags or FIBC Jumbo Bags. It is a bag with a large size used for transporting dry materials.

Normally, most bulk bags will sit around 80cm to 90cn in height and 85cm in width. However, it can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and can be customized according to the requirements of the customers.

Jumbo Bag Bulk Bag

There are some universal standards for jumbo bags, they should be able to hold 700-900kg or nearly a ton therefore they must be carried by machines through the transfer belt.

Consequently, the advantages of such bags are evident. It has an excellent weight carrying capabilities and is able to withstand harsh conditions with minimum possibility of breakage.

2. What is the meaning of FIBC?

FAQ Arrow

FIBC is the abbreviation of Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container.  FIBC is also known by many names such as super sacks, bulk bags, or jumbo bags, all of which indicate its outstanding ability to carry heavy products. It was used for storing and transporting flowable and dry raw materials, such as plastic particles, sand and fertilizers.

The Meaning of Term FIBC

3. What is the raw material of FIBC bags?

FAQ Arrow

The FIBC is made of 100% polypropylene. According to some extra requests, maybe there is an inner pe bag inside the jumbo bag.

Polypropylene Jumbo Bag

4. What is woven polypropylene made from?

FAQ Arrow

Non-woven and woven polypropylene is made from plastic resin. The resin will go through a complex process of chemical and physical treatment. And finally, it will be stretched into the shape of plastic film.

5. Does the jumbo bag has the feature of being water-tight or waterproof?

FAQ Arrow

The answer is No, because the jumbo bag is made from woven fabric, the bag does not have the feature of water resistance. Some customers may prefer a coating or lamination as a moisture barrier, but this barrier is limited to a certain amount of moisture. The transportation process still needs extra protection since it's not 100% moisture-proof. Most of the efforts were made to increase the carrying capacity.

According to the local climate and specific storage conditions, we can customize the lamination. Therefore, as we said earlier, jumbo bags are designed for carrying dry products instead of wet products. If you are looking for a solution, particularly for wet products, don't hesitate to contact us and send us inquiries.

6. What is the method to pick up jumbo bags?

FAQ Arrow

There are two lifting belts laminated on both sides of the bag. In the process of transferring, it can be easily picked up by lifting machines through the belts. There are some guidelines as to how to safely lift the jumbo bag.

How To lift Jumbo Bag

First, you should ensure the bag itself is not damaged. The design of such a bag is to carry heavy dry products, so normally it can withstand day-to-day wear. But you still need to handle it with care.

Secondly, make sure the maximum weight of the forklift is compatible with the weight of a full-load jumbo bag. if not, you are going to face the risk of unnecessary mechanical damage.

7. How can I empty an FIBC bag?

FAQ Arrow

Transportation is only a part of the whole system, in the final stage, we are facing problems of how the products in the jumbo bag can be discharged safely without wastage.

The most traditional way of discharging a jumbo bag is through a discharge spout, which is added to the bottom of the bag. Usually, the discharge spout is tucked inside a closure on the bottom of the bag.

The closure is sometimes called a petal closure, pajama closure, star, or x-cut closure. The closure is designed to protect the spout and to prevent the product from sifting out of the discharge before its intended discharge. Discharge spouts can be customized with specific sizes and closures.

There are several ways as to methods of discharging bulk bags.

The first and most common one is gravity. This is a fairly easy way to empty the bag because you just need to open the discharge spout and let the products flow to the intended unloading area. However, the flaw in this method is that you cannot control the amount of material to be released.

Second, some jumbo bags don’t have a discharge spout therefore the discharging process requires manual work by using a C-shaped cutting on the bottom of the bag. The disadvantage is also obvious. Once the bag is cut open, it cannot be reused but discarded

8. Can I use a jumbo bag more than once?

FAQ Arrow

The answer is YES, many jumbo bags can be reused several times concerning their integrity.

However, we do not recommend the jumbo bag be reused too many times because after carrying a heavy load of products, it has the possibility of breakage and aging. This will affect the capacity of the jumbo bag and greatly increase the risk of leakage.

9. What does coating mean for FIBC?

FAQ Arrow

The coating is a common method that is used to add extra features to the bags.

For example, we can add a moisture-proof barrier to the film. The lamination provides a moisture barrier to protect the contents of the bag from moisture.

Many industries need such a feature since a jumbo bag is made from woven polypropylene which has gaps so that the bag is not "waterproof". There are also many other features that could be laminated to film. For example, there are oxygen barriers, printable coating, and so on.

10. What is a duffel top?

FAQ Arrow

Before getting to know what is a duffel top, we must know what is a bulk bag.

Bulk bag, also known as Flexible intermediate bulk container, are one kind of bag used to transport dry, heavy products such as sand, grain, powders, fertilizers, etc.

This is an ideal packaging solution because they are easy for machines to lift and transport from one place to another.

When it comes to a duffel top, we are talking about a special feature that is added on the top of the bag.

Basically, there will be an extra panel added on the top of the bag. They are like a lid with same width and length.

The lid With such a lid on top, it makes the content in bag less easy to spill, which in turn greatly increased its safety during transportation.

Consequently, this will reduce material loss during transportation. Long term speaking, this is a cost-saving solution.

11. What is the difference between duffel top and open top?

FAQ Arrow

As we explained earlier, both open top and duffel top are all common features of a bulk bag.

With regard to open top, you can imagine it as a container without a lid. This is a relatively economical packaging as there is no extra features.

However, the overall strength of an open bag is as strong as other kinds of bulk bags. If you are looking for a relatively cheap packaging solutions, this one is good for you.

12. What is a fill spout?

FAQ Arrow

Here we are going to talk about the third most common feature of bulk bag, which is fill spout.

Fill spout bag, or spout top bulk bag, is a common feature that includes panel on the side as well as a spout on top of the bag.

This is an even smaller opening compared to the other two bags. The small spout offers a waste-free filling process.

Don’t worry, the size of the spout is customizable, meaning that it can be designed to meet your specific filling requirements.

Normally, A spout open bulk bag is made especially for powdered material. This is easy to understand that the smaller the open is, the more it gets protection.

As a result, spout open bulk bag is always used for containing cement, resin, food ingredients and other powdered products.

13. What are lift loops (straps)?

FAQ Arrow

Lift loop, as the name suggests, is the strap on top of the bag and is used for lifting the bag during transportation. This is one of the most important part of a bulk bag since the strength of the loops determines the whether or not the material can be delivered safely to the destination.

Commonly, there are three types of lift loops used in bulk bag. The first one is cross corner loops. We can easily recognize the loop as it was sewn onto the lower body of the bag with a round loop on top.

The second one is corner seam loop. In each corner there is a lift loop. The third one is stevedore straps. This feature is actually an extra strap added to the above two straps.

This addition makes it easier for forklift or other lifting machines to transport bulk bag with minimum risk of breakage.

Therefore, the material used for making loops should have large bearing capacity so that the bulk bag will not fall off from the crane or hook system easily and compromise the environment.

14. Can I use a crane to lift a bulk bag?

FAQ Arrow

As we said earlier in the article. When transporting bulk bag, there will be a hook or crane system specialized for the shipping of bulk bags. Three different bulk bags can all be lifted easily through such systems.

15. Can I print on to a bulk bag?

FAQ Arrow

The raw material used for producing bulk bag is normally woven polypropylene fabric, they look good in ink printing.

The size of the large bulk bag makes it easy to be seen from a distance. There are plenty of print options that you can apply onto the bag to raise your brand awareness overseas.

If you don’t have a design in mind, don’t hesitate to contact us for solution. We provide design and print services with your specific requirements.

16. What are baffles?

FAQ Arrow

Baffles are made from fabric woven or sewn into the corner of the bag. the major purpose for this addition is to reinforce its shape as a square.

During the process of unloading, some other bags may have the risk of rolling over. Whereas in the case of bulk bag with added baffles, the bulk bag can stand upright on the ground, minimize the risk of rolling over.
